Job summary

Brecon Beacons National Park Authority is seeking a Senior Planning Officer (Development Management) to manage planning development casework on the National Park and fringes. You will support the Principal Planning Officers to deliver a high-quality planning service in line with statutory requirements.

The role requires a planning degree, at least five years of public/private sector development management experience, and strong knowledge of policy and procedures.

Qualifications

• Degree in Town and Country Planning or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years’ relevant Development Management experience.
• Knowledge of planning policy, legislation and procedures.
• Ability to work on own initiative and manage workload.
• Excellent communication, report writing and proofreading.
• Current driving licence and Welsh language ability (Welsh Level 1).
• Ability to mentor and train junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Process Development Control casework including major applications, adverts and listed building consents.
• Carry out site inspections, prepare reports and present to Planning Committee.
• Peer review delegated decision reports and enforcement notices.
• Undertake EIA screening and provide opinions.
• Negotiate with agents, developers, internal consultees and statutory bodies.
• Handle pre-application enquiries and advise on Section 106 agreements.
