Job summary

Carrington West is seeking a Senior or Principal Planning Officer to join a local authority in the North West on a 6-month contract. The role sits in Development Management and will manage a varied caseload from complex minors to majors while mentoring junior staff. Office presence 1–2 days per week is expected.

The position offers an immediate start and a competitive hourly rate of £45-£50, dependent on experience.

Qualifications

• Experience handling planning applications from pre-application to determination
• Ability to provide technical planning advice to internal and external stakeholders
• Experience supporting junior staff and contributing to service development
• Knowledge of planning conditions compliance and breach investigations

Responsibilities

• Manage planning applications from pre-application stage through to determination and enforcement
• Provide technical planning advice to internal and external stakeholders
• Support junior members of the team and contribute to service development
• Ensure compliance with planning conditions and investigate breaches
• Assist officers with research, analysis, and monitoring
• Present applications at Planning Committee meetings where needed
