Planning - Shaping Tomorrow's Communities Today

Our Development Management Service plays a vital role in shaping Wiltshire’s future by determining planning applications for new developments.

While some decisions involve subjective judgment, we strictly follow legal and procedural guidelines to ensure compliance with legislation and policy.

We support the council’s business plan by encouraging new development, fostering economic growth, and promoting environmental protection and sustainability.

In this role, you'll lead various planning projects, working closely with the community and stakeholders to develop important new projects.

You will assess planning applications, enquiries, and appeals, contributing to Wiltshire's overall vision for the future.

Although you won't manage others directly, you'll mentor junior planning officers, ensuring their work aligns with council rules and national standards.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience Required
  • Qualified planner (degree or equivalent experience)
  • Strong IT and GIS skills
  • Expert knowledge of planning laws
  • Experience handling complex cases, appeals, and negotiations
  • Excellent communication, organization, and decision-making skills
  • Good understanding of local government processes
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a motor vehicle
