Job summary

Carrington Blake Recruitment is seeking an experienced Planning Manager to oversee a high-quality development management service. You will handle major, complex and contentious planning applications, provide expert advice, and lead negotiations with developers while representing the Council at Planning Committees and inquiries.

You will mentor junior officers, ensure compliance with legislation and council policies, and drive performance improvements across the planning team.

Qualifications

• Proven experience managing major, complex or contentious planning applications.
• Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation and influencing skills.
• Strong knowledge of planning legislation, regulations, policies and development management procedures.

Responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload of planning applications, including major, complex and controversial development proposals.
• Provide professional planning advice to applicants, agents, elected Members, stakeholders and the public.
• Represent the Council at Planning Committees and public inquiries.
• Lead negotiations with developers to achieve appropriate planning outcomes.
• Prepare appeal statements, proofs of evidence and statements of common ground.
• Attend Planning Committees and present reports and recommendations.
• Deputise for Development Managers when required.
• Monitor planning conditions and ensure decisions are implemented appropriately.
• Contribute to team development and continuous service improvement.
