We’re currently recruiting for a Principal Planning Engineer to join a dynamic and growing team supporting key infrastructure projects across the UK. This is a commercially focused role, ideal for someone confident leading their own project planning activities while effectively contributing to a wider team. This position will support pre- and post-contract stages, helping deliver successful outcomes across the full project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead planning activities across multiple projects, working closely with the Project Controls Manager.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams and client representatives.
  • Provide accurate scheduling, analysis, and forecasting aligned with contract requirements.
  • Monitor and manage project risk, change, and schedule variations, proposing mitigations where necessary.
  • Collaborate with project and contractor teams to ensure realistic and achievable schedules.
  • Support the recruitment and development of the planning function as projects scale.
  • Ensure appropriate handovers are arranged during periods of absence.
  • Strong understanding of the interaction between time, cost, and commercial factors throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Proven experience in managing schedules through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover phases.
  • Skilled in the development and implementation of planning procedures and reporting.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret Earned Value metrics.
  • Experience working in highly regulated industries such as Nuclear, Defence, or Oil & Gas.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., ACostE, APM).
