Job summary

SSEN Transmission is seeking experienced Senior Planners to lead planning and scheduling across Onshore, Offshore and Development projects in Scotland. The role supports major energy infrastructure programmes and requires spending 50% of the week in the office at Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen or Inverness.

You will manage a team of planners, oversee end-to-end schedules, provide technical scheduling guidance, and collaborate with project managers, contractors and site teams to deliver realistic

Qualifications

• Experience in planning and scheduling on large-scale infrastructure or major capital projects.
• Experience leading planners or teams to improve capability and consistency.
• Strong knowledge of Primavera P6 or similar tools.
• Understanding of NEC3 or FIDIC contracts helpful.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of planners across multiple projects.
• Oversee development and analysis of robust project schedules end-to-end.
• Provide technical planning guidance to project teams to identify schedule risks and mitigations.

Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office - Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen or Inverness

Salary: £51,600 - £77,400 + performance-related bonus+ a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

As our investment in the electricity transmission network continues to grow, we’re looking for experienced Senior Planners to help lead the planning and scheduling activity that underpins some of the UK’s most important energy infrastructure projects. These opportunities span our Onshore, Offshore and Development teams, supporting complex programmes that are helping to deliver a cleaner, more secure energy future.

In this role, you’ll bring strong technical planning experience, confidence in managing complex project schedules, and the ability to guide and support a team of planners. You’ll work closely with project, commercial, engineering, site delivery and contractor teams to provide clear programme insight, improve schedule quality, and help teams make informed decisions across the full project lifecycle.

You will

• Lead, support and develop a team of planners, helping to create a positive, high-performing planning environment across a portfolio of Transmission projects.
• Oversee the development, management and analysis of robust project schedules across the full lifecycle, from early development through to delivery, construction, commissioning and energisation.
• Provide technical planning guidance to project teams, using your experience to identify key schedule risks, impacts, opportunities and practical mitigation actions.
• Work closely with project managers, contractors, commercial teams, site teams and wider stakeholders to ensure programmes are realistic, joined up and able to support delivery decisions.
• Produce clear reporting and performance insight, including earned value and progress information, to help project and business leaders understand status, risks and areas for action.

You have

• In-depth experience in planning and scheduling on large-scale infrastructure, construction, energy or major capital projects, ideally across complex project lifecycles.
• Experience of leading, mentoring or managing planners, with the ability to support capability, quality and consistency across a team.
• Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6 or similar planning and scheduling systems, with the ability to build, review and improve complex programmes.
• A good understanding of contract planning requirements, with NEC3 or FIDIC experience being beneficial.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a proactive approach and the confidence to work across internal teams, contractors and delivery partners.

The successful candidate may be expected to travel between different SSE offices and project sites, with the occasional overnight stay. A driving licence is therefore required.
