Job summary

Bilfinger UK is seeking a Senior Planner for the LAES FOAK project in Greater Manchester. You will create and maintain schedules across the full lifecycle, integrating with BD, engineering and project management teams to deliver cost and resource-loaded plans for tenders and contracts.

You will lead scheduling processes, build detailed master and lookahead schedules, apply QSRA-based risk allowances, and align cost/cashflow with resource forecasts while supporting NEC4 requirements and change

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in an EPC environment.
  • NEC3/4 qualification and/or significant experience.
  • Expert level capability in Primavera P6 planning software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications (MS Office, Teams).
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written, plus strong analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage key scheduling processes and documentation (bps, WBS/OBS/CBS, Cost Accounts).
  • Produce fully cost and resource loaded Primavera P6 schedules (master, detailed, lookahead).
  • Embed schedule risk management with QSRA analyses and risk allowances.
  • Coordinate between schedule, cost estimate/cashflow and resource forecasting.

Highview Power Carrington – LAES Project (FOAK)
50 MW / 300 MWh Liquid Air Energy Storage Facility | Greater Manchester

First‑of‑a‑kind, commercial‑scale greenfield delivery of a 50 MW / 300 MWh Liquid Air Energy Storage (LAES) facility, supporting long‑duration energy storage and the UK’s net‑zero transition.

The project utilises proprietary LAES technology, converting surplus renewable electricity into stored liquid air, with later pressurisation and reheating to drive turbines for electricity generation.

Role / Scope (Bilfinger UK)
  • Principal contractor for Mechanical, Electrical & Instrumentation (MEI) construction, including structural steelwork
  • Delivery of complex, safety‑critical systems within a novel technology environment
  • Working within a large high‑performing, multi‑disciplinary integrated delivery team on a technically challenging FOAK scheme

The Role

The Senior Planner is responsible for the creation and maintenance of all project schedules across the full lifecycle of the project, inclusive of all required supporting documentation, procedures and standards. These responsibilities range from liaising with the business development, engineering and project management teams to develop a fully cost and resource loaded schedule for tender / contractual submissions, through to the management of the periodic progress updates and submissions with all required reporting outputs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Development and management of all key scheduling processes and key documentation (inclusive of robust basis of schedule, WBS/OBS/CBS structures, Cost Accounts, activity coding structures)
  • Development and management of all required fully cost and resource loaded Primavera P6 schedules as needed for the Project, inclusive of integrated master schedules, detailed construction schedules (level 4 / 5) and periodic lookahead schedules.
  • Embedding schedule risk management best practices, ensuring that all schedules contain appropriate time risk allowances using Quantitative Schedule Risk Management Analysis (QSRA).
  • Management of the alignment and interaction between the schedule, project cost estimate / cashflow and resource forecasting and utilisation.
  • Establish effective change control management including the use of techniques such as critical path analysis and float erosion to provide early warning of potential issues.
  • To establish and manage the periodic progress capture, schedule update and submission process and outputs in-line with NEC4 requirements.
  • Development and production of all required monthly reporting outputs (e.g. planned vs actual progress reporting / narrative, S-Curves, manpower histograms)
  • Work closely with the Project Controls Manager and commercial teams to establish cost engineering systems to monitor, control and report costs (inclusive of all Earned Value Management output requirements).
  • Provide contract management support including development of bespoke and/or generic rules of credit, KPI development and monitoring, NEC programme acceptance management and production / assessment of compensation event impact schedules
  • Liaise with PMs/RDs to manage the provision of appropriate resources and expertise to successfully deliver the project control activities
  • Support the wider business with the identification and adoption of project controls best practices
Qualifications & Experience

  • Capability in Microsoft 365 applications (MS Office, teams, etc.)

Desirable
  • BSc / BEng / MSc in Engineering, Construction Project Management or relevant subject
  • APM, AcostE or APE membership and/or qualification
  • Certified Oracle P6 Training (P102 & P106)
  • Power BI, Power Platform and SAP experience
