Job summary

Bilfinger UK is seeking a QA Engineer to support the Highview Power Carrington LAES project. You will prepare QA documentation, review plans, and coordinate with Welding Engineers, Project Engineers and external inspectors to ensure quality across ME&I activities.

The role requires strong experience in QA/QC, GMP-like documentation, and the ability to interpret isometrics and welding/NDT standards. On-site work at the Greater Manchester project site is expected with close client liaison.

Qualifications

• Good Engineering and QA/QC background.
• Knowledge and experience in Quality Management Systems.
• Development of project QA documentation (Quality Plans, ITPs) and review of supplier QA documentation.
• Knowledge of KPIs and performance monitoring.
• Able to read and understand isometric drawings.
• Understanding of pipe standards and specifications.
• Radiographic interpretation.
• Computer literate; proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Understanding of fabrication, welding and NDT techniques.
• Good communication and report writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate guidance on material certification, welding, NDT and other QA requirements.

• Liaise with 3rd party inspectors and coordinate Inspection function.
• Raise CIFs and liaise with Client QA departments.
• Ensure QA documentation/records are maintained in the BMS.
• Support the QA team on site.

Highview Power Carrington – LAES Project (FOAK)
50MW / 300MWh Liquid Air Energy Storage Facility | Greater Manchester

The project utilises proprietary LAES technology, converting surplus renewable electricity into stored liquid air, with later pressurisation and reheating to drive turbines for electricity generation.

• Principal contractor for Mechanical, Electrical & Instrumentation (MEI) construction, including structural steelwork
• Delivery of complex, safety-critical systems within a novel technology environment
• Working within a large high-performing, multi-disciplinary integrated delivery team on a technically challenging FOAK scheme

As a QA Engineer, your activities will include the following, but are not limited to:

• Prepare and review Quality Plans, Inspection and Test Plans and supporting QA documentation.
• Provide Quality related technical support for the project
• Review vendor/supplier Quality Plans and Inspection and Test Plans.
• Liaise with Welding Engineers and Project Engineers in relation to submission of documentation and QA requirements for projects / maintenance.
• Co-ordinate and advise guidance on material certification, welding, NDT and other quality requirements.
• Co-ordinate the QA/QC Engineering function within M, E & I disciplines for BP FPS.
• Liaise with 3rd party inspectors and co-ordinate the Inspection function.
• Raise Continuous Improvement Forms (CIFs) as appropriate and liaise with Client’s QA departments.
• Ensure all quality documentation/records are maintained within the Company’s Business Management System (BMS).
• Ensure quality performance monitoring is maintained and reviewed accordingly against KPIs.
• Contribute to the improvement and technical capabilities of the Company.

Qualifications

• PCN level 2 – MPI / DPI
• Recognised Lead Auditor qualification (9001)
• ONC/HNC Mechanical Engineering (Desirable)
• Radiograph Interpretation (Optional)
