What will the role offer?

We're looking for a proactive, highly organised and experienced Senior Planner with a background in Highways, Infrastructure or major capital delivery environments. You'll bring strong programme and project controls expertise, excellent stakeholder management skills, and the ability to provide strategic planning support across a diverse portfolio of projects and programmes.

As Senior Planner, you will play a key role in the development, implementation and continuous improvement of planning and project controls activities, ensuring successful programme delivery and high standards of governance, reporting and assurance.

What you will be doing
  • Leading planning and project controls activities across Highways and Infrastructure programmes.
  • Developing, implementing and continuously improving programme controls frameworks, standards and assurance processes.
  • Managing integrated programme and project schedules, including critical path analysis, baseline management, progress measurement and forecasting.
  • Monitoring programme performance, identifying risks and opportunities, and providing robust delivery forecasts.
  • Producing high‑quality reports, dashboards, KPIs, variance analysis and trend information for senior leadership teams and clients.
  • Providing constructive challenge to delivery teams regarding programme performance, resource assumptions, commercial impacts and risk exposure.
  • Working closely with commercial, finance, procurement and operational teams to ensure planning activity supports delivery, value and risk management objectives.
  • Acting as a key interface with clients, suppliers, delivery partners and internal stakeholders to support successful programme outcomes.
  • Leading planning meetings and programme reviews with clients and stakeholders.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and identifying innovative approaches to planning and project controls.
  • Championing a proactive safety culture and ensuring compliance with company policies and reporting requirements.
We want to hear from you if you have:
  • Experience in programme or project planning within Highways, Infrastructure or major capital delivery environments.
  • Experience leading planning activities across large and complex programmes or portfolios.
  • Strong understanding of schedule management, risk management, change control, forecasting and project governance principles.
  • Experience developing and implementing planning processes, controls frameworks and reporting standards.
  • Advanced capability in planning and controls tools such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Excel, Power BI and other relevant systems.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with a strong attention to detail and analytical mindset.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and engage at all organisational levels.
  • The ability to interpret complex data and provide meaningful insights and recommendations to support decision making.
  • Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams in a project delivery environment.
  • Awareness of environmental, highways safety and site management requirements.

It would be desirable if you hold a degree in a relevant discipline, have equivalent demonstrable experience, or are a member of a relevant professional body. Chartered status, or working towards chartership, would be advantageous.
