Job summary

Carmichael UK is seeking an experienced Planner/Senior Planner to support major infrastructure and energy projects nationwide, from tender through to delivery. You will develop integrated, resource-loaded programmes, manage scope and reporting, mentor junior planners, and work closely with delivery, engineering, commercial and client teams on complex schemes onsite 3–4 days per week.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.
• Experience on large-scale infrastructure, utilities, energy or civil projects.
• Advanced knowledge of Primavera P6 and/or Asta Powerproject with strong Excel/reporting.
• Solid understanding of NEC3/NEC4 contracts, Earned Value Management, QSRA and risk management.
• Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently and in multi-disciplinary teams.
• Proactive approach to planning excellence.

Responsibilities

• Produce, maintain and manage fully integrated, resource-loaded project programmes throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure schedules are logically linked, achievable and aligned with delivery objectives.
• Monitor programme performance and address issues.
• Develop high-quality tender programmes and delivery strategies for bids.
• Present planning approaches to internal stakeholders and clients.
• Manage and monitor contract programmes to ensure alignment with commercial requirements.
• Assess programme changes and support recovery strategies.
• Identify risks and implement mitigation for delivery milestones.
• Produce progress reports, KPI dashboards and planning insights for leadership.
• Communicate status, risks and opportunities to stakeholders.
• Support informed decision-making through robust analysis and reporting.
• Provide guidance and mentoring to junior planners and promote best practice.
• Contribute to planning standards, systems and methodologies.

Job description

An inside IR opportunity exists for a Planner/Senior Planner on major infrastructure/energy projects countrywide. Working closely with delivery, engineering, commercial and client teams, you will provide expert planning support from tender stage through to project completion.

In particular, your contact and cost loading knowledge during the Engineering/Procurement/Construction/Commissioning phase, would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Development & Management

• Produce, maintain and manage fully integrated, resource-loaded project programmes throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure schedules are logically linked, achievable and aligned with delivery objectives.
• Monitor programme performance and proactively address any emerging issues.

Tender & Bid Planning

• Develop high-quality tender programmes and delivery strategies that support successful bid submissions.
• Present planning approaches and programme solutions to internal stakeholders and clients.

Project Controls & Delivery Support

• Manage and monitor contract programmes to ensure project performance remains aligned with commercial and operational requirements.
• Assess programme changes, evaluate impacts and support the implementation of effective recovery strategies where required.
• Identify critical activities and key project risks, implementing mitigation measures to protect delivery milestones.

Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement

• Produce regular progress reports, KPI dashboards and planning insights for project leadership teams.
• Communicate programme status, risks and opportunities clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
• Support informed decision-making through robust analysis and reporting.

Team Leadership

• Provide guidance and mentoring to junior planners and less experienced team members.
• Encourage knowledge sharing and promote best practice across the planning function.
• Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of planning standards, systems and methodologies.

Requirements for this post include

We are seeking an experienced planning professional with the technical expertise and leadership skills to operate within complex project environments.

You will ideally possess:

• A degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
• Demonstrable planning experience gained on large-scale infrastructure, utilities, energy or civil engineering projects.
• Advanced user knowledge of Primavera P6 and/or Asta Powerproject, together with strong Excel and reporting capabilities.
• A solid understanding of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts, Earned Value Management, Quantitative Schedule Risk Analysis (QSRA) and programme risk management techniques.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify programme risks, opportunities and potential delivery challenges.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• The ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within multi-disciplinary project teams.
• A proactive approach to continuous improvement and planning excellence.

This opportunity would require you to be on site for 3-4 days a week.
