Charity People is pleased to be working with Ataxia UK (AUK) to recruit for an exciting, brand-new role of Senior Philanthropy Manager. This role is vital to the growth and ongoing sustainability of the charity, offering a fantastic opportunity for someone to make a significant impact.

Working closely with the Director of Fundraising & Communications and the wider team, the Senior Philanthropy Manager will lead the delivery of AUK's strategy to build a sustainable pipeline of major donors, family trusts, and foundations, enabling year-on-year growth in unrestricted income. The ideal candidate will be a natural relationship builder with a proven track record of securing high-value, long-term partnerships with major donors.

  • Location: Hybrid working, with travel to the London Office once a week
  • Contract: Permanent, part-time - 28 hours per week

About the Organisation

AUK is the leading national charity in the UK for people affected by any type of ataxia, a rare neurological disorder affecting balance, coordination, and speech. AUK funds research into treatments and cures, and provides advice, information, and support to those affected.

About the Role

As Senior Philanthropy Manager, you will secure long-term, high-value relationships with major donors and trusts, personally securing five and six-figure gifts. You will develop an excellent stewardship program to grow unrestricted income and nurture existing major donor relationships. You will also strategize to identify, cultivate, and secure gifts from new donors.

You will leverage excellent communication skills to craft compelling and tailored cases for support. As a key team member, you will bring creativity, insight, and experience, acting as a confident ambassador both internally and externally.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and build relationships with individual major donors and trusts, securing significant gifts
  • Collaborate with the Director of Fundraising & Communications to recruit and manage a Philanthropy Consultant for prospect research
  • Manage ongoing donor research and prospect identification
  • Develop a peer-to-peer network of engaged major donors
  • Create and maintain a moves-management stewardship strategy for a portfolio of donors and prospects
  • Design and execute income-generating events and engagement opportunities
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams, volunteers, and external stakeholders
  • Engage in external networking with donors, sector peers, and family representatives
General Responsibilities
  • Write compelling proposals, reports, and stewardship materials with support from the Communications & Marketing team
  • Present partnership opportunities through impactful presentations and visits
  • Utilize and update CRM systems to reflect relationship progress and forecasting
  • Support event delivery, including dinners hosted by volunteers
  • Manage budgets, monitor performance, and produce reports for the Board
  • Engage in professional development activities
  • Foster good internal communication and teamwork
Candidate Profile

If you are a proactive, people-oriented individual with experience in major donor fundraising, this role could be ideal. Essential skills and experience include:

  • Proven success in securing large gifts (£25,000+) and achieving six-figure annual targets
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Experience in major donor fundraising and line management
  • Data analysis and translation skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and prioritize effectively
