Job summary

West Midlands Metro is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Permanent Way Team Leader to lead a team of PWay maintenance technicians. The role covers hands-on leadership, planned and reactive maintenance, and ensuring track infrastructure meets safety and maintenance standards.

You will oversee specialists on the tram network, develop your team, participate in projects and network improvements, and drive continual safer, more efficient working practices while balancing day-to-day technical work.

Qualifications

• Over eight years’ rail industry experience in a similar maintenance environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of Permanent Way maintenance and repair practices, equipment and plant.
• Experience inspecting switches and crossings and interpreting detailed technical drawings.
• Experience working with track geometry and reviewing associated data.
• Experience assessing and managing risk associated with PWay defects.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support a team of Permanent Way maintenance technicians.
• Plan and prioritise planned and reactive maintenance across the tram network.
• Oversee inspection, diagnosis, maintenance and repair of switches, crossings and bespoke S&C.
• Ensure track geometry remains within maintenance limits and review survey data.
• Produce scopes of work for Permanent Way repairs and contractor support.
• Oversee contractors and planned works as required.
• Organise projects and maintenance activities from small tasks to large works.
• Report on maintenance activity to the Infrastructure Maintenance Manager.
