Job summary

West Midlands Metro is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Permanent Way Team Leader in Wednesbury to lead a skilled PWay maintenance team and oversee planned and reactive works across the tram network. You will drive safety, quality and continuous improvement while coordinating inspections, repairs and asset data management.

The role requires substantial rail experience, leadership ability, and a proactive approach to adoption of new technologies and methods.

Qualifications

• Over eight years' rail industry experience in a similar maintenance environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of Permanent Way maintenance and repair practices, equipment and plant.
• Experience inspecting switches and crossings and interpreting detailed technical drawings.
• Experience working with track geometry and reviewing associated data.
• Experience assessing and managing risk associated with PWay defects.
• Confidence using gauges and other precision measurement equipment.
• Previous experience leading, supervising and developing a maintenance team.
• Ability to operate relevant machinery and plant.
• Industry qualification in Permanent Way maintenance at Level 6 or above.
• GCSE Maths and English at Grade C/4+ or equivalent.
• Professional registrations (PWI/IOSH/ILM Level 3 or equivalent) desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support a team of Permanent Way maintenance technicians.
• Plan and prioritise planned and reactive maintenance across the tram network.
• Oversee inspection, diagnosis, maintenance and repair of switches, crossings and bespoke S&C.
• Ensure track geometry remains within required maintenance limits.
• Review survey and track geometry data and act on defects identified.
• Manage PWay defects with appropriate risk controls.
• Ensure work is completed safely per procedures and CDM requirements.
• Use gauges and precision equipment to inspect infrastructure.
• Produce scopes of work for Permanent Way repairs and contractor support.
• Oversee contractors and planned works when required.
• Organise projects and maintenance activities from small tasks to larger works.
• Keep asset information accurate and up to date.
• Report maintenance activity to Infrastructure Maintenance Manager.
• Support commissioning of new Permanent Way systems.
• Help develop and improve Asset Management Information System.
• Support team development and progression.
