Senior Pavement Renewal Engineer

Job summary

National Highways is seeking an Engineer to join the Pavement/Roads Team in the Operations Directorate for the South East region. You will lead the development and delivery of pavement renewal schemes to keep the strategic road network safe and reliable for our customers.

Working with project teams and third parties, you will coordinate works across the region, provide technical support, and ensure adherence to asset class strategies, policies and standards.

Qualifications

• Good knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards and their application.
• Experience in highway infrastructure design, construction and delivery methods.
• Good knowledge of CDM 2015.
• Membership of a professional body is desirable or working towards Membership.

Responsibilities

• Ensure health and safety needs and wellbeing of customers and employees are fully considered throughout planning and delivery of each service activity.
• Identify and manage asset studies and survey works, prioritising needs to keep assets in serviceable condition and meet standards.
• Develop early solutions for renewals and/or improvements, considering buildability, costs and new techniques.
• Develop technical briefs for design and construction contractors for renewal projects.
• Provide technical support to Project Managers with materials approvals, contractor vetting, site inspections and H&S file reviews.

Education

Degree or HND in relevant discipline and appropriate experience, or equivalent
