Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Degree level or equivalent education in Audiology or MSc in Audiology
  • Parts I and II BAAT and Certificate for higher training (Paediatric)
  • Evidence of CPD
  • On the voluntary register with ACHS

Desirable criteria

  • Parts I and II BAAT and Certificate for higher training (Paediatric)
  • Deaf awareness training
  • CAC or CCC

Experience

Essential criteria

  • 3 years of experience of working in an NHS audiology department
  • 1 year of experience as paediatric audiologist
  • Experience of aiding children using NHSP/BAA protocols
  • Experience of working with the deaf, their families and culture

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of behavioural, rehabilitation and electrophysiological assessment
  • Audiological experience of working with newborn hearing screening programme
  • Experience of working with a cochlear implant team
  • Electrophysiological assessment for young babies
  • Experience of peer reviews

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Ability to work with children and their parents with other disabilities, e.g. learning difficulties, autism.
  • Ability to work as autonomous professional
  • Multi-tasking, able to work under pressure
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and diverse patient group
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Desirable criteria

  • Peer support

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Infection prevention and control
  • Supervision ethos
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of paediatric audiology and advanced audiological test techniques including national developments
  • Ability to formulate comprehensive and appropriate management plans based on good case history information
  • Awareness of budgetary/management limitations and constraints
