Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a demonstrably experienced, dynamic and enthusiastic physiotherapist to join our highly regarded musculoskeletal (MSK) outpatient physiotherapy team at Tavistock Hospital. The physiotherapy MSK outpatient service for Plymouth and South Hams (Kingsbridge and Tavistock) is hosted by the acute trust but provides the service at various locations across the city. This post will be static at Tavistock Hospital, Tavistock. However, the post can rotate through all other UHP MSK clinical sites if there is a service need at both at Derriford hospital and peripheral sites, women’s health, spinal follow up, rheumatology, hydrotherapy, hands, fracture clinic and pain management. The successful candidate must have a broad range of post graduate experience including general MSK Outpatients and Orthopaedics, knowledge of neurology and respiratory care would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will join this well-established service to support, deliver, develop and promote this service. Trust is committed to providing both quality care to the local population and supporting our staff. You will be given opportunities to develop both your clinical and managerial skills, through CPD, staff supervision, mentoring and in-service training.

Main duties of the job

To perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of MSK / outpatients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a clinical diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.

To hold responsibility for own case load and be responsible for the management of MSK / outpatient clinical and administrative services, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case conferences. Access to advice and support from senior physiotherapists is available if required, clinical work is not routinely evaluated.

To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.

Supervise, educate and assess the performance of physiotherapy students and more junior staff; this would be to a graduate standard and involve working with universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.

***Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as ‘Priority’ and 'At Risk' status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.***
