About the role

We have a new opportunity for a Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Mechanical team in Bristol. This is an exciting time to join our well-established Bristol office, known for delivering outstanding design on projects across Bristol, the Southwest, and beyond. You will work with a collaborative, knowledgeable, and highly engaged team that values support, flexibility, and high performance.

Bristol is a vibrant city with a rich cultural heritage, ambitious growth plans, and aims to become carbon-neutral. Our Bristol office has a long-standing history in the city, working on many landmark sites. It is the second-largest office, home to over MEP engineers and a growing range of specialist disciplines.

As a Senior or Principal Engineer, you will support and deliver designs for various project types and sizes. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, providing high-quality service to clients, developing repeat and new business opportunities, and ensuring profitability.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Building and maintaining client relationships and fostering future opportunities.
• Promoting the full range of Hoare Lea's services and contributing to bids.
• Defining and agreeing project briefs, taking ownership, and delivering profitable schemes.
• Leading larger schemes and coordinating disciplines as the main client contact.
• Supporting staff development and leading local teams.
• Managing project workload, delegating, and checking work.
• Monitoring project expenditure and reporting to management.
• Ensuring quality standards, technical accuracy, and risk management.

About you

To succeed, you should have:

• Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer or similar, with a record of delivering complex projects.
• Understanding of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
• Experience working in multidisciplinary teams, with strong communication skills.
• Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
• Self-awareness, openness, and a collaborative spirit.
• Knowledge of relevant British Standards.
• Consultancy experience, appreciating the importance of related disciplines like acoustics, fire engineering, and computer modeling.
