Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior/Principal Civil Engineer for the River and Coastal Team in the Southwest (Exeter, Plymouth, Taunton, Bristol, or Cardiff). The role focuses on river, coastal and flood risk design with opportunities to mentor staff and progress to line management.

You will design drainage strategies, engage stakeholders like the Environment Agency, and contribute to a diverse portfolio from flood risk assessments to land development schemes.

Qualifications

• Civil Engineering degree, Chartered (CEng) with proven delivery of projects.
• Experience in infrastructure or environmental design, especially river and flood risk.
• Experience producing Flood Risk Assessments.
• Experience with SuDS design and drainage standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepare calculations and reports for planning and design stages.
• Prepare plans and drawings from concept to construction.
• Design earthworks, river structures, and drainage schemes with specs.
• Coordinate with Environment Agency and other stakeholders.
• Support projects during construction and mentor junior engineers.

About the role

Are you a Civil Engineer located in the Southwest with experience of river, coastal or flood risk management in the infrastructure design or environmental sector? Do you have a passion for delivering sustainable projects that have a lasting impact on our communities? This opportunity is ideal for an engineer looking to join our River and Coastal Team in eitherExeter, Plymouth, Taunton, Bristol, or Cardiff as a Senior or Principal Engineer, with full support provided for your career development and advancement.

This position offers the opportunity to be involved in the design and management of a diverse portfolio of river, coastal and land development projects. These may include flood risk, river engineering, and supporting wider strategic land development schemes for a variety of public and private sector clients. We're looking for someone with a strong background in the design, optioneering, coordination, designs for drainage strategies, flood risk management, river engineering and river restoration schemes.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertaking calculations and reports for planning and the design stage.
• Preparing plans and drawings at all stages of the project development cycle (concept through to construction).
• Design of Earthworks, river structures and drainage schemes and the preparation of the associated specifications.
• Ensuring high quality delivery in design through QA checks.
• Engaging with the Environment Agency and other stakeholders to obtain necessary approvals.
• Liaising with clients, third party bodies and multi-disciplinary teams and disciplines on all relevant aspects of projects.
• Supporting projects during the construction stage, including site queries and inspections.
• Opportunity to grow the team and mentor junior engineers, with potential for line management (experience depending).
• Project Management (experience dependent, however training available).

Additional Experience and Responsibilities

About You

About You, Civil Engineering degree, or similar, Chartered and successful delivery of projects with excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients, consultants, contractors, and public bodies. You'll bring hands-on experience across all project stages from concept to completion including project coordination and making sound engineering decisions.
