Job summary

Stantec in Cardiff is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to lead the delivery of civil engineering projects, coordinating design teams and ensuring technical quality from early design through approvals and construction.

You will manage drainage, levels and external works design, maintain QA, and contribute to technical standards while strengthening client relationships and project ownership within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering (BEng/MEng or equivalent).
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with ICE, or working toward chartership.
• Strong experience in civil engineering design for building developments.
• Experience delivering drainage (surface and foul), levels, and highways/external works design.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, InfoDrainage, Civil 3D, and collaborative platforms.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of civil engineering projects, ensuring technical quality, programme, and client outcomes.
• Coordinate design teams, attend project meetings and align designs with project objectives.
• Develop and manage civil design packages, including drainage, levels, and external works, ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Oversee QA across outputs and contribute to technical standards and continuous improvement.
• Manage client relationships and support progression from design through approval and construction.

Job description

You're a Senior Civil Engineer who wants to lead projects, not just contribute to them. At Stantec, you'll join our Civil Engineering team in Cardiff, working across a range of building development projects within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. This is a role where you'll take ownership of delivery while influencing how projects are shaped, working closely with clients and design teams to deliver practical, high-quality outcomes.

ABOUT THE ROLE

You will lead the delivery of civil engineering projects, taking responsibility for technical quality, programme, and client outcomes. You'll coordinate design teams, attend project meetings, and ensure designs are aligned with wider project objectives and requirements. Your work will focus on developing and managing civil design packages, including drainage, levels, and external works, ensuring compliance with SAB requirements and other regulatory standards. You'll oversee quality assurance across outputs while contributing to technical standards and continuous improvement within the team. Alongside delivery, you'll manage client relationships and support the successful progression of projects through key stages, from early design through to approvals and construction.

You'll play a key role in delivering developments that shape communities across the region. Your work will influence how sites are designed and brought forward, ensuring solutions are practical, compliant, and aligned with environmental and regulatory requirements. ABOUT YOU
