Job summary

Howco in Sheffield is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead across machining, heat treatment, testing and quality control, driving operational excellence and profitability.

Reporting to the Regional Director, you will own end-to-end operations, mentor teams, and deliver data-driven improvements while ensuring QHSE compliance and safe working practices.

Qualifications

• Senior operations experience in engineering with multi-stage manufacturing.
• Proven KPI delivery including SQDC metrics.
• HNC/HND level or equivalent accreditation.
• Lean/Six Sigma or CI framework experience.
• Strong leadership, communication and ability to work under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Leading Operational Excellence and continuous improvement programmes to drive efficiency, reduce waste and profitability.
• Implementing visual management systems and standardising data-driven approaches to capacity planning, scheduling and daily operational meetings.
• Driving a culture of collaboration across all departments, creating a genuine "one business" mindset.
• Identifying and delivering process improvement and capital expenditure projects to support future strategic needs.
• Ensuring full compliance with QHSE legislation and promoting a culture of safe working across all operations.
• Mentoring and developing your operational team, with a focus on high-potential individuals.
• Producing weekly and monthly performance reports for the Directors, enabling data-led decision making.

Job description

Elevation Recruitment Group are pleased to be working with Howco to appoint an Operations Manager at a key stage of the business's growth. Howco operates across multiple disciplines including machining, heat treatment, testing and quality control, and has a strong track record of delivering complex products to demanding customer specifications. This is a business with genuine ambition, and the incoming Operations Manager will play a central role in shaping how that ambition is realised.

Reporting to the Regional Director, you will take full accountability for operational performance across the site, spanning goods in, despatch, sawing, machining, heat treatment, testing and quality control. This is a broad, senior appointment and you will be expected to lead from the front.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Leading and delivering Operational Excellence and continuous improvement programmes to drive efficiency, reduce waste and improve profitability
• Implementing visual management systems and standardising data-driven approaches to capacity planning, scheduling and daily operational meetings
• Driving a culture of collaboration across all departments, creating a genuine "one business" mindset
• Identifying and delivering process improvement and capital expenditure projects to support future strategic needs
• Ensuring full compliance with QHSE legislation and promoting a culture of safe working across all operations

To be considered for this role, you will need:

• Demonstrable experience in a senior Operations Management role within an engineering environment, ideally with some technical knowledge/expertise around multi-stage manufacturing processes
• A track record of leading multi-disciplined teams across the full order-to-despatch process
• Proven delivery against and improvement of operational KPIs, including SQDC metrics
• Ideally hold qualifications around HNC/HND level or equivalent vocational accreditation
• Competency in Operational Excellence methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma or similar CI frameworks
• Strong working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislationProficiency in ERP/MRP systems
• Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the composure to perform in a high-pressure environment
