Job summary

The Ministry of Justice is recruiting for a Senior Operational Support Manager to support the Head of LDU Cluster within the National Probation Service. You will provide strategic leadership, manage staff, and act as a representative with external agencies, ensuring delivery of action plans and compliance with policies.

You will work in a hybrid arrangement, based in the UK, with 37 hours per week, and be eligible for Civil Service terms and development opportunities, supporting safeguarding and

Qualifications

• Mid‑level management experience with responsibility for staff development and welfare.
• Experience monitoring performance against local targets and implementing improvements.
• Budgetary control and procurement experience.
• Proven ability to manage relationships with local agencies and stakeholders.
• Ability to prepare high‑level written reports to a good standard.

Responsibilities

• Cluster operational lead on caseload segmentation issues (e.g., Child Sexual Exploitation, Guns and Gangs, Integrated Offender Management).
• Provide operational support to Head of Cluster within Probation Instruction criteria and rules (Recall, High Risk transfers).
• Support the Head of Cluster with grievance, discipline, capability, and complaints processes.
• Develop and deploy the Cluster Training Needs Analysis and ensure staff recruitment/induction.
• Act as cluster lead for performance and quality, audits and inspections.
• Support reviews and delivery of action plans (Domestic Homicides, Serious Further Reviews).
• Represent the NPS in local strategic partnerships and map to statutory responsibilities.
