About the Role

Our client, a prominent operator in the Oil & Gas sector, is seeking an experienced Senior Operations Geologist to join their established team in Randburg, Gauteng . This role is critical for providing real-time geological support during drilling operations, ensuring wellbore stability, accurate formation evaluation, and timely decision-making to optimize safety and efficiency. The successful candidate will work closely with drilling engineers, geophysicists, and other geoscientists to interpret incoming data, manage geological risks, and ensure wells are drilled within their geological objectives. This position offers a dynamic, hands-on experience in a collaborative office environment, with potential for occasional site visits. We are looking for a geologist with a strong understanding of formation evaluation, well logging, and real-time data interpretation in an operational context. The ideal candidate possesses excellent communication skills, the ability to perform under pressure, and a proven track record in the Oil & Gas industry. Key Responsibilities

• Provide real-time geological interpretation and guidance during drilling operations.
• Analyze well log data, core samples, and cuttings to evaluate formations and identify reservoir characteristics.
• Monitor wellbore stability and provide recommendations to drilling teams.
• Correlate geological data across multiple wells to build and update subsurface models.
• Identify and manage geological hazards and risks, such as stuck pipe and kicks.
• Prepare and present geological summaries and updates to management and drilling crews.
• Collaborate with geologists, geophysicists, and engineers to ensure alignment with project objectives.
• Maintain accurate geological databases and logs for active drilling wells.
• Contribute to post-well analysis and lessons learned documentation.
• Ensure compliance with all company policies and industry best practices for geological operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Geology or a related geoscience field. Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience as an Operations Geologist or Drilling Geologist within the Oil & Gas industry.
• Proven experience in real-time formation evaluation using well logs (resistivity, gamma-ray, sonic, etc.).
• Strong understanding of sedimentology, stratigraphy, and structural geology.
• Proficiency with geological software, including well log interpretation packages (e.g., Techlog, PowerLog) and visualization tools.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
• Experience in the Gauteng region or similar complex geological settings is advantageous.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
