Job summary

Bradford Council is seeking an Occupational Safety Adviser to join the Health & Safety team within the Assets and Facilities Management department. The role involves advising managers, developing safety policies, and promoting a strong safety culture city-wide.

You will monitor legislation, lead risk assessments and incident investigations, and support SLAs with services and schools. Interactions with unions and departments will be regular as part of ongoing safety improvements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum NEBOSH Certificate, or equivalent, at SO2, NEBOSH Diploma, or equivalent, at PO1.

Responsibilities

  • Keep abreast of legislative and procedural changes relating to health and safety and advise managers on recommendations for policy updates.
  • Undertake duties as a Competent Person under statutory requirements and support this provision in the Council.
  • Advise managers and staff on health and safety matters, policies and procedures, promoting a positive safety culture.
  • Identify hazards and risks and ensure they are controlled via robust risk assessment processes.
  • Monitor standards through visits, inspections, audits and statistics to ensure safe working environments.
  • Raise the profile of health and safety services and seek more SLAs with council departments and services.
  • Act as a responsible person for reporting accidents and incidents (RIDDOR) to HSE.
