We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Endocrine nurse to join the Diabetes & Endocrinology team with a passion for improving the experience and clinical outcomes for our patients who inspires others to provide excellent patient care.

We are looking for a nurse who has experience working autonomously in outpatients undertaking endocrine tests and playing a key role in the education of healthcare professionals.

Main duties of the job

The RUH in Bath is a large DGH with a largely autonomous endocrine dept that works alongside our local tertiary centres at Bristol and Oxford. It treats all forms of endocrinopathies and has thyroid and parathyroid surgery on site. It also has a tier 3 bariatric service.

We undertake regular pituitary and adrenal clinics and MDTS alongside Bristol. We also run several internal MDT meetings/clinics with surgery, radiology biochemistry etc. We also have regular clinical review meetings of our endocrine patients. We have an active research arm that undertakes multi centre diabetes and endocrinology

trials

The service is currently supported by 5 endocrinology consultants.

The post-holder will play a key role in developing and delivering the specialist endocrine nursing service

Person specification

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse with NMC registration
  • Independent Nurse Prescribing or willing to undertake
  • Experience of endocrinology in acute or community setting

Desirable criteria

  • Masters level module in endocrinology

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria

  • Endocrine nurse experience and development within the speciality
  • evidence of working within a multi professional team
  • Ability to critically analyse and evaluate data to inform endocrine management
  • experience of undertaking clinical audits & identifying deficits to improve outcomes
  • Ability to educate and deliver highly specialist endocrine education programmes.
  • Strong patient consultation skills

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of developing and implementing creative/ complex care packages
  • Experience in developing protocol, policies, and care pathways
