Job overview

Hill Rise Assessment and Treatment Service in Newhaven is part of a lively multi-disciplinary service for adults with severe mental illness. The service sits within the beautiful landscape of the South Downs National Park and is only a few miles from the cosmopolitan city of Brighton. Over the next five years our community mental health services are undergoing a huge transformation as we move to a more integrated network of services, with our mental health teams being central in driving the changes.

We are looking for a Senior Nurse Practitioner to be part of our clinical leadership team. They will champion the nursing profession within the service and promote excellence in clinical practice.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for providing professional and clinical supervision to junior nurses, lead on the development of nursing associates and coordinate student placements within the service.

They will have professional oversight over the clinic, medication management and physical health monitoring.

They will share their expertise with the wider MDT and use their clinical skills to support colleagues and to directly work with and manage complex cases.

We welcome nurses who want to develop a clinical specialism which could include evidence based psychological interventions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will provide specialist assessments and nursing interventions to patients within the care group; participate in review of clinical policies and guidelines; support and implement changes to practice; liaise with other organisations and professionals to promote communication and good practice; be able to undertake audit activity and supervision to other staff in the service area; have an understanding of psychosocial interventions to include psycho-education, wellness recovery action plans and discharge planning.

Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse with current registration (mental health / LD/ Adult) appropriate to the job role
  • Degree/diploma level supplemented by specialist qualification, training, experience, courses to masters level equivalent relevant to the care group
  • Evidence of post registration training in relevant service area
  • Completion of Mentorship Course/ENB equivalent
Knowledge/Experience
  • Extensive post qualifying experience in relevant service area
  • Experience of supervising staff and students
  • Able to manage a caseload of patients with complex mental health needs
  • Comprehensive knowledge of interventions specific to service area
  • Awareness of Trust policies and service specification
