Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  1. The post holder will exercise a high degree of personal and professional autonomy and have the ability to plan and reach complex and critical judgments and have decision-making skills.
  2. To deliver high-quality clinical care within the Integrated Healthcare Service for the prison, including acute & primary care, long-term conditions management, enhanced assessment and diagnostic intervention services, health promotion activities, aligned with NHS Plan, public health indicators, and National Service Frameworks.
  3. To demonstrate and provide robust expert clinical skills with a sound understanding of evidence-based nursing practice to ensure quality and outcome-driven practice daily.
  4. To support the development of evidence-based practice in the specialist field and promote research as appropriate.
  5. To participate in managerial and professional clinical supervision programs, ensuring junior staff receive appropriate supervision, training, and annual appraisal, integrating this into team practice.
  6. To implement effective, patient-centered care planning tools, long-term condition registers, and ensure consistent delivery across all prisons within the service.
  7. The post holder will work collaboratively with the Clinical Lead, GPs, and other clinicians to meet and review service needs as required.
  8. To deputise for the Team manager as required.
  9. To work positively and effectively in a challenging and often hostile environment.
  10. Be aware of environmental hazards; ensure staff are aware of relevant health & safety policies derived from the Health & Safety at Work Act.
  11. To work in accordance with Trust policies and guidelines.
  12. To be familiar with Prison Standards, Standing Orders, Circular instructions, Notices to Staff, Health and Safety, and relevant material to function as an informed practitioner within a prison setting.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION, PLEASE READ:

All applicants must be willing to undertake National Security Vetting to work in a Prison Setting, completed as part of pre-employment checks via Oxleas and the prison vetting team.

You will need to provide:

  • Proof of right to work documentation
  • Proof of ID, including 1 photographic ID
  • Proof of address documentation

Non-UK passport holders require correct documentation (right to work in the UK) and a Home Office Share code.

Address History: 5 years address history needed.

Applicants not UK Passport holders with less than 5 years UK address history must provide a Police Certificate in English from previous residencies.

Applicants who have lived abroad for over six months in the last three years need to provide a certificate of good conduct or overseas police check in English.

  • Experience working within secure & prison settings.
