Atomic Weapons Establishment in Aldermaston, Reading, is seeking a Compliance and Nuclear Safety Lead to drive safety Justifications and regulatory alignment onsite.

You will own the Nuclear Safety Case, provide authoritative advice to leadership, and ensure compliance with Nuclear Site Licence conditions, environmental permits and health, safety, security and quality requirements. The role requires operating on-site, engaging regulators and guiding risk programs.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development, integration, and maintenance of Nuclear Safety, conventional safety and underpinning safety justifications for the Business Unit.
• Ensure safety cases remain current, coherent and aligned to operational configuration, facility condition and planned change.
• Provide authoritative advice to Business Unit leadership on safety case adequacy, margins, constraints and limitations.
• Own interpretation and application of regulatory expectations within the Business Unit, ensuring proportionality and consistency.
• Lead engagement with nuclear, environmental and conventional safety regulators, including inspections and formal correspondence.
• Define, own and lead the Business Unit Nuclear Risk Management programme.
• Prepare robust evidence, briefing and responses for governance forums and regulatory interactions, ensuring information is accurate and timely.
• Drive timely resolution of compliance gaps, regulatory findings and safety case shortfalls through clear ownership and prioritisation.
