Job summary

Qualifications

  • Compassionate and patient by nature, with a genuine interest in improving residents' lives.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods and perform manual handling and cleaning tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing individual care plans for each resident, including nutritional needs and moving and handling requirements.
  • Help residents with dressing, undressing, bathing and toilet.
  • Assist residents with mobility problems and continence management, and use of aids and equipment.
  • Care for residents who are temporarily sick or dying, and manage basic dressings.
  • Make beds, tidy rooms, and manage laundry and light cleaning.
  • Inspect laundry and coordinate repairs with the housekeeper.
  • Promote mental and physical activities through conversation and activities.
  • Be mindful of Food Hygiene and health and safety regulations.

Night Senior Care Assistant -
The Lilacs: Our lovely home in Exeter, The Lilacs is looking for a full time Night Senior Care Assistant.

Key Responsibilities:
Care
  • Assist in the development of individual care plans for each resident, including nutritional needs, pressure sore prevention, moving and handling requirements, continence management.
  • Assist residents who need help with dressing, undressing, bathing and toilet.
  • Help residents with mobility problems and other physical disabilities including incontinence and help in the use and care of aids and personal equipment.
  • Care for residents who are temporarily sick and need minor dressings, bed nursing etc.
  • Help care for residents who are dying.
  • Make and change beds, tidy resident's rooms, light cleaning and the emptying of commodes.
  • Inspect resident's laundry and where necessary arrange for repair with the housekeeper.
  • Help in the promotion of mental and physical activities of residents through talking to them, taking them out when possible, sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreation.
  • Be aware and practise all Food and Hygiene and health and safety regulations.
Liaison
  • Liaise regularly with the Care Home Manager; reporting problems identified and if any action is taken.
  • Liaise with local Authority Social Services Departments.
  • Liaise with residents and their relatives.
Business
  • Undertake other responsibilities at the request of the Care Home Manager.
  • To ensure that all petty cash and residents funds transactions are recorded accurately.
  • To be mindful of the good reputation of the home.
  • Be mindful of Health and Safety issues e.g., trailing flexes across corridors and wet floors. Ensure warning signs are used and clearly displayed.
  • Answer call bells, the front door, telephone calls and welcome all visitors to the home.
Person Specification – Skills and Qualifications
  • Assist in the staff supervision as directed by the Care Home Manager of staff; help, assist in the orientation of new staff, support their training and development.
  • To participate in counselling sessions and where required, the disciplinary process.
  • To assist the Care Home Manager in identifying staff training needs.
  • To participate in service training programmes.
  • To attend relevant courses and conferences with the Company.
  • To compile duty staff rotas.
  • Previous experience in a care home, hospital, or similar kitchen environment is desirable but not essential
  • Strong organisational and multitasking skills, with the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • Good communication skills with a professional and respectful approach to colleagues and residents
  • Compassionate and patient nature, with a genuine interest in improving the lives of older or vulnerable people
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods and carry out manual handling and cleaning tasks
  • A positive, flexible attitude and willingness to learn and adapt to changing needs

Rate of pay: £13.68- £14.83per hour.
