Job summary

Stonehaven Healthcare Ltd. is seeking a dedicated Senior Care Assistant for The Lilacs home in Exeter. The role focuses on resident care, support with daily activities, and contributing to care plans to improve residents' quality of life.

Qualifications

• Experience in a care home, hospital, or similar kitchen environment is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Care for residents and assist in developing individual care plans including nutrition and mobility needs.
• Assist with dressing, bathing and toileting for residents.
• Support with mobility, continence, and use of aids and personal equipment.
• Care for residents who are temporarily sick or require minor dressings.
• Support residents who are dying and provide comfort and dignity.
• Make and change beds, tidy rooms, and assist with light cleaning.
• Inspect laundry and liaise with the housekeeper for repairs.
• Promote mental and physical activities by engaging residents in reading, hobbies and outings when possible.
• Ensure compliance with Food Hygiene and health and safety regulations.
• Liaise with Care Home Manager, local Authority Social Services, residents and relatives.
• Undertake other duties as requested by the Care Home Manager.
• Record petty cash and residents funds transactions accurately.
• Be mindful of the home’s reputation and health and safety.
• Answer call bells, front door, telephone and welcome visitors.

Senior Care Assistant

HOME: Our lovely home in Exeter, The Lilacs is looking for a Kitchen Staff member for 28 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:

• Care
• Assist in the development of individual care plans for each resident, including nutritional needs, pressure sore prevention, moving and handling requirements, continence management.
• Assist residents who need help with dressing, undressing, bathing and toilet.
• Help residents with mobility problems and other physical disabilities including incontinence and help in the use and care of aids and personal equipment.
• Care for residents who are temporarily sick and need minor dressings, bed nursing etc.
• Help care for residents who are dying.
• Make and change beds, tidy resident’s rooms, light cleaning and the emptying of commodes.
• Inspect resident’s laundry and where necessary arrange for repair with the housekeeper.
• Help in the promotion of mental and physical activities of residents through talking to them, taking them out when possible, sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreation.
• Be aware and practise all Food and Hygiene and health and safety regulations.
• Liaison
• Liaise regularly with the Care Home Manager; reporting problems identified and if any action is taken.
• Liaise with local Authority Social Services Departments.
• Liaise with residents and their relatives.
• Business
• Undertake other responsibilities at the request of the Care Home Manager.
• To ensure that all petty cash and residents funds transactions are recorded accurately.
• To be mindful of the good reputation of the home.
• Be mindful of Health and Safety issues e.g., trailing flexes across corridors and wet floors. Ensure warning signs are used and clearly displayed.
• Answer call bells, the front door, telephone calls and welcome all visitors to the home.

Person Specification - Skills And Qualifications

• Assist in the staff supervision as directed by the Care Home Manager of staff; help, assist in the orientation of new staff, support their training and development.
• To participate in counselling sessions and where required, the disciplinary process.
• To assist the Care Home Manager in identifying staff training needs.
• To participate in service training programmes.
• To attend relevant courses and conferences with the Company.
• To compile duty staff rotas.
• Previous experience in a care home, hospital, or similar kitchen environment is desirable but not essential
• Strong organisational and multitasking skills, with the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
• Good communication skills with a professional and respectful approach to colleagues and residents

Rate of pay:

Rate of pay: £13.68 - £14.83 per hour.
