6-Month Contract (Inside IR35) - Umbrella Only
Didcot, Oxfordshire - Hybrid Working (2-3 Days Onsite)
We provide the digital infrastructure and enterprise technology services that underpin complex scientific programmes and operational environments. Our portfolio includes multi-site networks, external connectivity, cyber security, identity management, collaboration platforms, telephony and critical business services. As we progress a substantial programme to strengthen cyber resilience, harden systems and improve our structures, processes and policies, we need an experienced Senior Network Engineer to sustain secure and reliable network operations during this period of change.
You will take a senior, hands‑on role in supporting and maintaining our multi‑site network estate, with particular responsibility for Fortinet firewalls, LAN and WAN infrastructure, routing, Wi‑Fi, IP address management, network access control and cloud telephony. Around 80% of your time will focus on business‑as‑usual operations, with 10% dedicated to projects outside the cyber resilience programme and 10% covering administration and associated responsibilities. Working across technical teams, you will provide leadership and practical guidance, resolve complex incidents, protect network stability and security, contribute to new solutions, and oversee the transition of services into live operation.
You will bring at least 5 years of hands‑on Fortinet firewall management and 5 years of experience managing XIQ Wi‑Fi environments. Strong knowledge of ClearPass, or an equivalent network access control system, is essential, alongside experience supporting multi‑site networks and configuring Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches and routers. You will also understand associated services including DNS and DHCP and have practical IP address management experience using Infoblox or an equivalent solution. To succeed in this assignment, you will need disciplined troubleshooting skills, sound technical judgement, clear communication and the ability to manage competing operational priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
You will secure an initial 6‑month contract running until the end of March, with the potential to extend for a further 6 months. You will help maintain critical network services while contributing to projects, service transitions and a wider cyber resilience programme.
