Job summary

Nextech is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to join our on-site team in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. You will lead network projects, design secure infrastructures, and support multi-site clients with strong routing, switching, and security expertise.

The role requires 4-5 years in a senior IT/networking position, hands-on experience with Cisco, Fortinet, Windows Server, Hyper-V, and cloud tools like Azure/Intune. A customer-focused mindset and clear communication are essential.

• Design, implement and support secure, scalable network solutions.
• Experience with Cisco routers/switches and Fortinet firewalls; Windows Server environments; and cloud services.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and support secure, scalable network solutions across multi-site environments.
• Lead delivery of network and core infrastructure projects including installations, upgrades and migrations.
• Manage on-prem and cloud infrastructure with high availability, performance and security.
• Provide senior-level support for routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, and WAN connectivity.
• Administer Windows Server environments and Hyper-V; support Azure, Office 365, and Intune.
• Monitor performance, capacity and security; identify risks and improvements.
• Maintain security policies, patching, firmware updates and disaster recovery.
• Act as escalation point for complex issues with remote and on-site support.
• Produce and maintain network documentation and diagrams.
• Collaborate with management to define standards and best practices.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.

Role: Senior Network Engineer
Location: Abingdon, Oxfordshire
Salary: Up to £57,000 + performance-related bonus

Join a well-established IT solutions provider with over 30 years' experience supporting 400+ client sites nationwide. We're looking for a customer-focused Infrastructure Engineer with strong networking expertise to join the growing team.

The Role

You'll lead and support networking projects, manage infrastructure, and provide remote and on-site support. You'll work closely with customers and internal teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-quality IT solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and support secure, scalable network solutions across multi-site customer environments.
• Lead the delivery of network and core infrastructure projects, including new installations, upgrades, and migrations.
• Manage and maintain on-prem and cloud infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and security.
• Provide senior-level support for routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, and WAN connectivity.
• Administer and support Windows Server environments, virtualised platforms (Hyper-V), and associated services.
• Support and optimise Microsoft cloud technologies, including Azure, Azure AD, Office 365, and Intune.
• Monitor infrastructure performance, capacity, and security; proactively identify risks and improvement opportunities.
• Implement and maintain security policies, patching, firmware updates, and disaster recovery solutions.
• Act as an escalation point for complex technical issues, providing remote and on-site support where required.
• Produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and procedures.
• Work closely with senior management and other technical teams to define standards, policies, and best practices.
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and oversight to junior engineers and field teams.

• TCP/IP networking, firewalls (Fortinet), and IT security
• Windows Server (2016/2019/2022), Hyper-V
• Active Directory & Azure AD
• Microsoft Azure, Office 365, Intune
• Windows 10/11 & Apple device support (MDM/Meraki)
• Backup & disaster recovery solutions
• Strong communication and customer-facing skills
• SQL Server experience beneficial
