Job summary

Lloyd’s Register in Southampton, UK, seeks a fire and safety senior specialist to provide technical services to naval shipbuilders and designers. Role focuses on appraising fire and safety documentation for new naval construction in line with statutory standards and class rules.

Based in a UK Technical Support Office, the role involves oversight during design, construction and vessel life cycle, with occasional site visits and the ability to lead project work within budget and contractual

Qualifications

• A degree or equivalent from a tertiary organisation, recognised by Lloyd’s Register, in engineering or physical science (minimum of two years programme).
• Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
• Working toward Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
• Proficiency in English language.
• Knowledge of Classification / Certification / Verification and familiarity with Classification Societies (IACS) Rules.
• Experience or exposure to fire and safety matters in naval industry or technical office.

Responsibilities

• Review and appraise fire and safety plans for naval ships in accordance with standards and class rules.
• Provide technical and regulatory guidance to stakeholders during design, construction and vessel life cycle.
• Perform appraisals and provide specialist advice related to fire and safety disciplines within budget and contractual constraints.
• Undertake project management including monitoring progress and spend against budget and contract requirements.
• Conduct site visits to shipyards, client sites, testing laboratories or production facilities as required.
• Report incidents including near misses and safety observations and escalate health and safety concerns.
