Job summary

Babcock in Helensburgh is seeking a Senior Naval Architect to tackle technically complex, non-routine submarine engineering work. You will influence vessels to meet stringent safety, regulatory and classification standards while supporting defence programmes.

Day-to-day you will deliver surveys, provide technical assurance across Babcock, subcontractors and suppliers, ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks, mentor junior engineers, and engage stakeholders to maintain quality, safety and

Qualifications

• Knowledge of defence, British, and classification standards and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience with nuclear submarines and understanding of structural integrity, systems and ops.
• MoD organisations and survey documentation processes.
• Application of safe systems of work, including COSHH and risk assessments.
• Experience in quality assurance and compliance environments.

Responsibilities

• Delivering survey activity and close-out in line with contract requirements and performance measures.
• Providing technical assurance through auditing, review, and approval of surveys across Babcock, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Ensuring compliance with defence, regulatory, and classification standards.
• Supporting the Principal Naval Architect with technical leadership and mentoring of junior colleagues.
• Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to maintain quality, safety, and operational excellence.
