Job summary

Babcock in Stoke Gifford, Bristol is seeking a Senior Naval Architect to influence safety, capability and availability of the Royal Navy's submarine fleet. This role sits within our Nuclear business and supports through-life maintenance and optimisation across the lifecycle.

You will work with industry partners, MoD and the Royal Navy to deliver complex engineering outcomes, with a 35-hour week and hybrid arrangements, onsite at least two days per week.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Naval Architecture or related engineering with significant structural experience.
• IEng status with a plan to achieve CEng status is desirable.

The role

As a Senior Naval Architect, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You'll have the opportunity to influence the long-term safety, capability and availability of the Royal Navy's submarine fleet. Working within our Nuclear business, you'll support through-life maintenance management and optimisation activities, ensuring complex engineering requirements are effectively planned and delivered throughout the lifecycle of critical defence assets. This is a rewarding role where your expertise will contribute directly to national security while offering the chance to collaborate with industry-leading engineers, the Ministry of Defence, the Royal Navy and key industry partners.

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to

• Manage structural maintenance requirements throughout the lifecycle of submarine platforms.
• Support through-life asset management, maintenance planning and engineering optimisation activities.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across Babcock, the Royal Navy, Ministry of Defence and industry partners.
• Assess structural engineering requirements, surveillance activities and defect rectification programmes.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with engineering policies and standards.

This role is based at Bristol Technology Centre and is a 35-hour working week. Flexible working arrangements are available. You will be working at least 2 days a week onsite.

Essential experience of the Senior Naval Architect

• Experience as a Naval Architect with knowledge of platform maintenance, structural surveillance and/or defect rectification.
• Strong understanding of structural engineering principles within complex engineering environments.
• Ability to build effective relationships and manage a diverse range of stakeholders.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Experience identifying and implementing engineering or process improvement initiatives

Qualifications for the Senior Naval Architect

• Degree qualified in Naval Architecture or a related engineering discipline with significant structural engineering experience.
• Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status with a demonstrable plan to achieve Chartered Engineer (CEng) status

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
