Job summary

Babcock is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to shape engineering excellence across Naval Nuclear programmes. You will lead significant engineering projects that support the Royal Navy’s operational capability, delivering innovative solutions.

Based at Devonport, Plymouth, or Bristol sites with hybrid working; responsibilities include project management, liaison with customers, and delivering complex engineering solutions to time and budget.

Qualifications

• Familiarity with commercial and subcontract processes.
• Experience driving innovation and improving engineering effectiveness and efficiency.

The role

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping engineering excellence across our Naval Nuclear programmes. This is your opportunity to lead significant engineering projects that directly support the Royal Navy’s operational capability, work that is innovative, meaningful and nationally important.

Day-to-day, you’ll be part of our Whole Boat & Platform Systems Engineering team, helping to drive engineering performance, improve processes, and influence how complex engineering systems are delivered.

• Carry out project management activities including planning, delivery and cost control.
• Liaise with customers and stakeholders to present solutions, progress and outcomes.
• Lead transversal engineering projects and deliver technical solutions to complex engineering problems.
• Implement engineering processes, governance and capability plans that improve how we operate.
• Undertake engineering investigations, producing clear reports and recommendations.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.

Essential experience of the Senior Systems Engineer

• Understanding and delivery of system technical requirements.
• Familiarity with commercial and subcontract processes.
• Experience driving innovation and improving engineering effectiveness and efficiency.
• Proven experience managing projects in fast‑moving environments, delivering on time, on budget and to quality standards.

Qualifications for the Senior Systems Engineer

• Degree or Level 5 qualification in a relevant STEM discipline OR substantial relevant experience can be considered.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
