Job summary

SilverRail is seeking a MySQL Database Administrator on a three-month contract to own the database infrastructure behind rail distribution platforms. The role sits in Platform Engineering, closely collaborating with engineering, infra and platform teams, reporting to the Engineering Manager (Database & Infrastructure).

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a MySQL Database Administrator or similar role.
• Proven proficiency in database schema design and data modelling.
• Strong track record of database optimisation including indexing and query tuning.
• Advanced SQL skills for analytics and troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience implementing read/write splitting in production.
• Experience with AWS RDS provisioning, monitoring, backups and scaling.
• Ability to work independently and deliver quickly within fixed-term engagements.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain MySQL schemas to support scalable, reliable applications.
• Manage day-to-day admin of production MySQL databases, with monitoring and health checks.
• Plan and execute schema changes with minimal service disruption.
