Job summary

Due to an expansion in our MRI service within the Radiology Department in Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Trust, we have an opportunity for an experienced, motivated radiographer to work in our neuro radiology department.

The department is one of the top Neuroradiology units in the UK providing a comprehensive range of specialist procedures, tests and treatments for all types of neurological conditions as well as a major trauma centre and host to the Great North Children's Hospital.

In Neuroradiology you will work as part of a small multidisciplinary team, providing high quality patient care, diagnostic imaging and interventional services. This is a rotational role that will allow you to train in MR, CT and Interventional Neuroradiology.

This post is ideal for a radiographer with proven experience in either CT, MRI and/or interventional radiography and wishes to develop their knowledge further within a busy tertiary teaching hospital.

The department is equipped with state-of-the-art technology with a recently installed Philips Azurion biplane system and a Siemens 3T Vida and 1.5T Flow Elite MRI scanners being installed withing the next 6 months.

Although this post is aimed towards a neuro radiographer, there may be an opportunity to concentrate your skills solely in general MRI performing MSK, ENT, cardiac, breast, gynae, HPB and paediatrics examinations.

Main duties of the job

You will undertake a wide range examinations, producing high-quality diagnostic images while supporting patient care and safety across inpatient, outpatient and emergency services.

This is a rotational post which will allow you to work with the diagnostic modalities of neuro MRI and CT, where you will be trained to undertake all neuro specific and complex imaging procedures and you will also give the opportunity to work within the neurosurgical, neurovascular and spinal interventional theatres. You will develop a high level of neuro specific theoretical and practical knowledge. You will have the opportunity to develop and enhance your radiographic knowledge and skills to allow you to make informed decisions and work efficiently as an autonomous practitioner. In addition, you will work within a multidisciplinary team contributing to the treatment of both complex neurovascular and spinal abnormalities and disease.

Although this post is aimed towards a neuro radiographer, there may be an opportunity to concentrate your skills solely in general MRI performing MSK, ENT, cardiac, breast, gynae, HPB and paediatrics examinations.

The post holder will supervise and support junior staff and radiography students, contribute to service delivery, and demonstrate sound knowledge MRI safety and radiation IR(ME)R. You will have a current CPD which demonstrates further education and role development in a speciality.

Cannulation skills are required and training can be provided if necessary.

Job responsibilities

You will need to have a BSc (Hons) or equivalent in radiography and have a valid HCPC registration as well as a comprehensive CPD portfolio. Experience in one of the imaging modalities above is desirable, however full training will be given.

We offer an induction package, training programs, clinical supervision and individualised support around the specialist skills required to meet the needs of our patients and this is provided by all members of the multi-disciplinary team.

As a fully trained radiographer, you will be capable of producing high quality diagnostic images. You will be responsible for the safety of patients, visitors, other staff and yourself. You will be expected to work within a team as well as showing initiative to work independently when required. As a senior radiographer, you will be expected to show a level of leadership.

This is a full‑time post based primarily at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, with potential cross‑site working. The service operates a seven‑day rota and participation is a requirement. Part time hours will be considered. There is a requirement to participate in a on‑call service

Applicants must hold a recognised Radiography qualification and be HCPC registered. Current NHS experience and knowledge of NHS policies and procedures are essential.

Essential
  • Working knowledge of all relevant professional and NHS policies and procedures.
