Job summary

Bristol NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced MRI Radiographer Band 6 to join our MRI team. The role covers adult and paediatric imaging with emphasis on cardiac MRI.

You will deliver a high-quality MRI service across hospital sites, work with the MRI Modality Lead and Leads, participate in extended day and on-call rotas, and supervise student radiographers. A HCPC registration and radiography degree are required.

Qualifications

• Must hold the Diploma of the Society of Radiographers DCR(R) or BSc Radiography and HCPC registration.
• Demonstrated knowledge of MRI safety regulations and CPD requirements.
• Experience in adult and paediatric MRI imaging with emphasis on cardiac MRI.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a comprehensive MRI service for adult and paediatric patients with high-quality diagnostic imaging.
• Maintain safe, patient-centered care and up-to-date MRI practice standards.

Job overview

We are seeking an experiencedMRI Radiographer to join our MRI team at Bristo NHS Foundation Trust. This role is ideal for a motivated Radiographer with expertise in adult and paediatric MRI imaging, who is passionate about delivering outstanding patient care.

You will play a key role in providing a high-quality, patient-centred MRI service across our hospital sites, working closely with the MRI Modality Lead and Band 7 MRI Leads. Experience in Cardiac MRI is essential and support will be available for further development within this specialist area.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 6 MRI Radiographer, you will:

• Deliver a comprehensive MRI service for both adult and paediatric patients, producing high-quality diagnostic images.
• Maintain excellent technical and clinical standards within MRI practice, ensuring patient safety and comfort at all times.
• Work collaboratively with radiographers, radiologists, medical physics teams, ward staff and other multidisciplinary colleagues to support efficient service delivery.
• Participate in the development of MRI services, contributing to quality improvement initiatives and keeping up to date with advances in MRI practice.
• Administer contrast agents and undertake IV cannulation in line with departmental protocols.
• Support and supervise student radiographers and act as a role model for professional practice.
• Contribute to the extended-day service by working evenings, weekends and participating in the 24/7 MRI on-call rota for adult and paediatric non-cardiac emergency imaging.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• To develop and maintain excellent technical and clinical competency in general and paediatric MRI, leading on to cardiac MRI.
• To be aware of current MRI safety regulations under the guidance of the MRI Safety Officer.
• To support the Radiographic Assistant team where necessary.
• To maintain the professional, technical and patient care standards.
• To liaise with Radiographic, Radiological, Clerical, Theatre and ward staff to manage workflow.
• To participate in the extended day and weekend rota and MRI On- Call rota.
• To liaise with, and support, clerical staff in the booking and preparation of patients, with special attention to those patients who have special MRI safety considerations.
• To actively monitor equipment performance and report any faults to the MEMO or the manufacturer as appropriate and to ensure that staff are aware of any faults
• Respond quickly to any complaints / concerns.
• Keep up to date with developments within the MRI field (CPD)
• To ensure that Local Rules and Standard Operating Procedures are kept up to date in conjunction with Medical Physics.
• To assist the lead Radiographers in the management, delivery and development of the service.
• To attend first-line management courses or other departmental courses at the discretion of the lead MRI Radiographers.
• To provide a sympathetic and caring environment for patients.
• To undertake and keep up to date with mandatory and statutory training.
• Administer lV contrast and Buscopan / Glucagon where appropriate to the protocol.
• Request Orbit X-rays for foreign bodies so that patients are not put at risk for MRI scans and to liaise with the Radiologists/ Cardiologists if any other imaging is required prior to the scan for safety purposes.
• To maintain patient confidentiality at all times. lnformation concerning the Trust's patients and staff must be treated as strictly confidential at alltimes and you may not divulge it to any other person except with the authority of your Head of Department. Such authority may only be given when it is in the patient's interest and is a necessary part of treatment. Unauthorised disclosure of confidential information will result in disciplinary action and may lead to your dismissal.

Supervisory, Teaching, Training Responsibilities

• To demonstrate expert knowledge of the MRI and standards of clinical practice.
• Act as an expert specialist educational resource for clinical staff, patients and carers by providing formal and informal education. Promote and develop a positive learning environment throughout the Trust.
• Promote team-working; build rapport and collaborative working practices with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Act as a clinical role model demonstrating high standards of clinical practice and provide support or advice to other staff when necessary.
• To supervise the practical experience of student radiographers.

Person specification

Education and qualifications

• Must hold the Diploma of the Society of Radiographers DCR(R) or BSc Radiography or equivalent
• Relevant qualification or training and specialist experience in their Modality e.g. Post Graduate Certificate or equivalent management course or working towards it.
• Must hold a current Health Professions Council (HCPC) Registration Certificate
• Must have an understanding of relevant Health & Safety at work and Welfare issues, including the Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017
• Must have evidence of completed and planned Continued Professional Development
