Job summary

Olo is seeking a Senior Android Engineer to help shape the next generation of features for the Olo app, focusing on Kotlin and scalable architecture. You’ll contribute to performance optimisations and work closely with the Mobile Engineering Manager and four experienced Android engineers.

You will be working remotely within Northern Ireland, collaborating with colleagues across the NI team to deliver high-quality mobile solutions and maintainability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in software engineering focused on native mobile development.
• Advanced proficiency in native Android development using Kotlin and architectural design.
• Experience managing CI/CD with GitHub Actions.
• Experience with unit/integration/end-to-end testing and automation.
• Leadership skills and collaboration across teams.

Your new role

With the brand-new Olo app launching later this year, you’ll play an integral part in shaping next-gen features and bringing our post-MVP vision to life while also gathering feedback from the fast-growing user base and fixing bugs they report. You’ll help us plan for the feature roadmap of the app and provide input in the direction of both the iOS and Android codebases. You’ll have the support of a dedicated Mobile Engineering Manager for the Olo app and work alongside four highly experienced mobile engineers, three of whom are based in Northern Ireland.

How you'll make an impact

• Demonstrate proficiency in the team's domain and technology stack, providing guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and contributing to technical decision-making.
• Proactively address technical debt by prioritising its resolution alongside feature development, ensuring maintainable, scalable, and high-quality codebases through regular refactoring and system improvements.
• Take ownership of complex features and projects, working independently and collaborating with team members to drive development from concept to delivery.
• Lead code reviews, sets quality standards, and offers in-depth feedback to improve code quality across the team.
• Partner with Product and other stakeholders to refine requirements, ensuring solutions are well-architected and aligned with business goals.
• Focus on delivering reliable, maintainable software solutions and actively implements performance optimisations and resilience mechanisms.
• Monitor and maintain services in production, diagnosing and resolving critical issues efficiently with minimal support.
• Participate in the architecture and design of distributed systems, ensuring best practices are followed for reliability and scalability.
• Take the initiative to improve the team's development processes and tooling, advocating for best practices and automation improvements.
• Ensure consistency and quality in shared components and APIs.
• Contribute actively to the team's knowledge base, lead learning sessions, and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
• Use Claude Code as part of your daily workflow, and grow your skills through hands-on AI training designed to help you become highly effective with modern AI coding agents and IDEs.
• Demonstrate ownership of the team's delivery pipeline, ensuring that code quality, testing standards, and deployment practices are continuously optimised.
• Active participation in on-call duties is required, with specific responsibilities determined by your assigned team and area of expertise.

What will set you up for success

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, specifically focused on native mobile developement
• Advanced proficiency in native Android mobile development using Kotlin and experience independently designing and implementing complex algorithms and architectures.
• Skill in managing and improving CI/CD processes, with hands-on experience using tools like GitHub Actions.
• Experience with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing practices, with a strong emphasis on automation for testing and deployment.
• Leadership skills such as mentoring peers, leading technical discussions, and collaborating effectively across teams and departments to deliver solutions aligned with business priorities.
