Job summary

digiLab is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Machine Learning) to join on-site in Exeter or Bristol. You will contribute to the core Uncertainty Engine, building robust Python-based back-end services and APIs, and integrating ML capabilities for production use.

You will work within a fast-paced, collaborative environment, applying best practices and modern software engineering to tackle impactful problems.

Qualifications

• Significant industry experience in scientific software development.
• Proven ability to design robust ML-powered APIs and services.
• Experience building production APIs with FastAPI or similar.
• Strong Python proficiency and Linux command line skills.
• Understanding of model training, evaluation, and production trade-offs.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and maintenance of high-quality software solutions.
• Consume and extend an internal ML library to surface ML functionality via backend.
• Build scalable, high-performance backend services and APIs with security best practices.
• Apply software design patterns, SOLID principles, and architectural best practices.
• Own CI/CD pipelines and deployments, ensuring reliability and performance.
• Provide technical support and lead incident investigations.
• Champion Scrum and contribute to team process improvements.
• Collaborate with product management to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Foster a collaborative, learning-oriented team environment.
