Job summary

Outpost is hiring a Senior ML Research Engineer to develop models and research infrastructure for multi-omic datasets, turning complex biological data into actionable insights. You will own high-impact research questions end-to-end and build reproducible training and inference pipelines that support rapid iteration.

The role requires fluency in PyTorch/TensorFlow, a PhD or equivalent, and a track record of shipping ML systems in a collaborative, cross-functional team.

Qualifications

• PhD, publications, or equivalent evidence of independent work.
• Fluency in PyTorch, TensorFlow or another deep-learning framework.
• Experience shipping ML systems with research component.

Responsibilities

• Design and train novel ML models for multi-omic data (metagenomics, metabolomics, 16S).
• Own research questions from hypothesis to publication-quality evaluation.
• Set rigorous evaluation standards to distinguish real results from artifacts.
• Build reproducible training and inference pipelines and robust experiment tracking.
• Collaborate across data and lab teams and communicate findings via publications and conferences.
