Job summary

MCS Group is hiring a Senior Machine Learning Engineer in Belfast to join a US software partner developing a cybersecurity product. You will blend statistics, machine learning and robust software engineering to take the product from prototype through to market.

You will contribute to architecture decisions, work with an experienced team, and bring a track record of four to five years in production Java along with strong Python and ML fundamentals to solve real-world security challenges.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial software engineering experience, ideally including four to five years working with production Java.
• Practical experience in applied statistics, mathematical modelling or machine learning.
• Confidence working with complex datasets and evaluating model performance.

MCS Group is working exclusively with a US software company to recruit a Senior Machine Learning Engineer for its Belfast team.

The business is developing a new cybersecurity product, with an opportunity to help take it from prototype through to market. You'll combine statistical thinking, machine learning and strong software engineering to solve real-world security challenges.

The role

• Develop statistical models and unsupervised learning techniques to identify anomalies in complex datasets.

• Investigate data, evaluate different detection approaches and assess their effectiveness.

• Turn experimental work into robust, tested and maintainable production software.

• Contribute to architecture and technical decisions as the product develops.

• Work closely with an experienced engineering team, influencing the product from an early stage.

What you'll bring

• Strong commercial software engineering experience, ideally including four to five years working with production Java.

• Practical experience in applied statistics, mathematical modelling or machine learning.

• Confidence working with complex datasets and evaluating model performance.

• A track record of writing reliable, well-tested production code.

Strong Python engineers with previous Java experience and solid engineering fundamentals will also be considered.

Experience in cybersecurity, anomaly detection, fraud detection or behavioural analytics would be valuable, alongside exposure to ClickHouse or numerical and ML libraries.
