Neptune North Ltd. in Newcastle upon Tyne is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to deliver ML applications for defence and provide technical oversight to a growing team.

You will help lead applied AI capabilities and work on engineered solutions, POCs, and research to support future defence-relevant capabilities. You will shape data science and ML solutions, mentor engineers, and collaborate with clients to set requirements, while traveling to sites across the UK as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years employment experience delivering and/or overseeing AI/machine learning projects.
• Hands on experience training, evaluating and tuning deep learning models using PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Strong grounding in maths and statistics behind ML.
• Experience taking models from experimentation into production, including deployment and retraining.

Responsabilités

• Influence the technical direction and strengthen Neptune North’s ML capabilities.
• Provide leadership and hands-on delivery in ML/AI projects.
• Work with clients to shape requirements, manage expectations and build trust.
• Contribute to winning work by writing compelling bids and technical proposals.
• Mentor engineers to build a high-calibre team.
• Adapt to evolving company priorities.
