Job summary

Neptune North is a high-performing technical consultancy specializing in data, AI and software for defence, financial services and private capital. We are seeking Machine Learning Engineers to train and run models across diverse projects, including POCs and applied research for future defence capabilities.

You will develop and optimise ML models, ensure production readiness, and share expertise within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Strong grounding in the maths and statistics behind machine learning.
• Hands-on experience training, evaluating and tuning deep learning models using frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Solid grasp of model evaluation, including choosing the right metrics, diagnosing overfitting, and designing sound validation strategies.
• Experience taking models from experimentation into production, including deployment and retraining.
• Skill in feature engineering and in handling messy, imbalanced, or limited training data.
• Depth in at least one area of machine learning, such as unstructured data, time series forecasting, reinforcement learning, or few-shot.
• Experience optimising models for constrained hardware: edge, embedded or very low power devices.
• Knowledge of model explainability, AI safety or fairness.

Responsibilities

• Develop, train and evaluate machine learning models, working at the algorithmic level rather than treating models as black-box components
• Optimise model performance and inference for the environments our clients operate in
• Provide technical expertise when it is required within the organisation and in client engagements
• Demonstrate flexibility in taking on work aligned to evolving company priorities
• Play an active role in sharing expertise to raise and re-use capability
