Joining Arup

Arup's purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

Our Resources and Critical Materials business brings together expertise across mining, quarrying, waste, energy, water, infrastructure and environment to support the responsible supply of critical materials essential to society. As demand for critical minerals accelerates, we see a unique opportunity to redefine how mining projects are planned, delivered and operated, integrating sustainability, resilience and whole system thinking from the outset.

We are not a traditional mining consultancy. We bring whole system thinking across infrastructure, energy and environment to redefine project outcomes and support more sustainable development of mining projects globally.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Mining Engineer/Geologist to play a pivotal role in growing our Mining Centre of Excellence in the UK to deliver locally and support international projects.

This is a senior position within a small and expanding team, with ambition to significantly grow our presence in the mining sector. You will combine strong technical expertise with strategic thinking, delivering work for our clients and helping to position Arup as a trusted advisor in the sustainable development of mining projects across the UK, EIMEA and globally.

You will bring together Arup’s multidisciplinary capabilities to support clients across the mining lifecycle, from early-stage strategy and planning through to design, development and operational support, while maintaining sufficient technical depth to lead and guide delivery of our projects.

  • Support the delivery of advisory and technical projects spanning mining, quarrying, tunnelling and underground excavation projects across planning, design, development and operational support phases.
  • Technical leadership to support the team with developing mining planning and design skills, as well as geological and geotechnical skills relating to mines and critical minerals.
  • Integrate Arup’s wider capabilities, including environmental, social, infrastructure and energy expertise, into mining solutions.
  • Flexibility to support and deliver wider infrastructure projects in the Resources market to supplement mining opportunities.
  • Provide mentoring and coaching to other team members at junior and graduate level.
  • Support the development and implementation of Arup’s mining market strategy, aligned to global priorities.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, partners and stakeholders across the mining value chain.

We are looking for a highly motivated and commercially aware individual with a strong technical foundation and a desire to make a meaningful impact.

  • A Masters degree (or equivalent) in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered status, equivalent professional accreditation or close to obtaining chartership
  • Significant practical experience in mining, tunnelling and underground excavation design or operational support.
