Job summary

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust in Worcestershire is seeking a Biomedical Scientist for the Microbiology Department. The post involves 37.5 hours per week over 7 days, including out of hours and on-call duties; a late shift rota and weekend bank holidays.

The department provides Microbiology services with Serology and Molecular, operates LIMS Clinsys Winpath, and uses systems like MALDI-TOF, Vitek, and GeneXpert.

Qualifications

• HCPC registration and NHS microbiology laboratory experience.
• Demonstrates CPD and up-to-date knowledge in microbiology.
• Understands good laboratory practice and safety.
• Willingness to work out of hours and on-call.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Biomedical Scientists, associate practitioners and MLA staff.
• Perform pre-analytical preparation and data entry of patient/specimen information.
• Analyse potentially infectious samples using manual or automated methods.
• Carry out troubleshooting and preventative maintenance on complex automated systems.
• Handle potentially infectious material and ensure validity of own results.
