Job summary

Castings Technology International is seeking a senior Metrology & CMM Lead to direct the metrology/inspection function for aerospace castings. You will oversee CMM activities, calibration, NCR investigations, and ensure AS9100 compliance while aligning with production targets.

You will mentor the CMM team, maintain PC‑DMIS proficiency, liaise with customers, and drive continuous improvement across measurement processes and cycle times.

  • Formal training or certification in metrology, CMM, or dimensional inspection techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage senior-level metrology/CMM activities, ensuring accurate measurement and analysis of aerospace castings and patterns.
  • Responsible for measurement and dimensional analysis of all patterns and castings with support from the departmental manager.
  • Oversee operation, maintenance, and performance of Faro/Hexagon CMM equipment with support from the departmental manager.
  • Lead CMM inspection activities ensuring accuracy, repeatability and compliance with aerospace standards.
  • Establish and maintain CMM accuracy checks, validation routines, and verification processes.
  • Develop and enforce inspection procedures and best practices across the CMM department.
  • Interface with the departmental manager to oversee day-to-day operations of the CMM/metrology department.

Job description

Previous experience in metrology and dimensional inspection within an aerospace or engineering environment.

Proven leadership of metrology operations and inspection teams.

Hands-on experience with metrology systems such as Hexagon CMMs, FARO arms, and related inspection equipment.

Experience using metrology software (e.g., PC-DMIS) for inspection planning, execution, and reporting.

Track record of leading NCR investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.

Experience working directly with customers and internal stakeholders to resolve quality and technical issues.

Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement in inspection processes, cycle times, and measurement capability.

Experience ensuring compliance with aerospace quality standards (e.g., AS9100) and customer requirements.

Qualifications Required
  • Formal training or certification in metrology, CMM, or dimensional inspection techniques.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of measurement traceability and inspection validation processes.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with experience mentoring operatives.
  • Excellent communication skills for liaising with customers, suppliers, and internal departments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on quality and accuracy.
Role Duties

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, those below

  • To lead and manage at senior level all metrology / CMM activities within the organisation, ensuring accurate measurement, inspection, and analysis of aerospace castings and patterns while maintaining compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Responsible for measurement and dimensional analysis of all patterns and castings with support from the departmental manager.
  • Accountable for the operation, maintenance, and performance of : Faro scanning arm, Hexagon scanning arm, Hexagon Coordinate Measurement Machines with support from the departmental manager.
  • Lead and oversee CMM inspection activities, ensuring accuracy, repeatability, and compliance with aerospace standards with support from the departmental manager.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain CMM accuracy checks, validation routines, and verification processes.
  • Develop and enforce inspection procedures, operating standards, and best practices across the CMM department.
  • Liaise with the departmental manager to manage from a senior level the day-to-day operations of the CMM / metrology department.
  • Ensure servicing, calibration, and certification of all measuring and inspection equipment in line with ISO and aerospace standards.
  • Lead participation in NCR meetings, providing technical input, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure official routing and inspection processes are strictly adhered to at all times.
  • Interface directly with customers, including attending virtual and in-person meetings to discuss inspection results, quality concerns, and technical requirements.
  • Ensure availability and effective use of latest metrology software, maintaining proficiency within the team (e.g., PC-DMIS).
  • Collaborate with the After Cast Manager and Production Teams to ensure inspection priorities align with production schedules and delivery targets.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within metrology, including process optimisation, cycle time reduction, and capability enhancement.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the departmental manager and the CMM team, ensuring high levels of competency and performance.
  • Ensure full compliance with aerospace standards (e.g., AS9100), customer specifications, and internal quality systems.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, reporting, and traceability for all inspection activities.
  • Support audits (internal, customer, regulatory) related to metrology and inspection.
