Job summary

Safran is seeking a Senior Metrology Engineer in London to act as the technical lead for metrology within a defined manufacturing domain. You will champion measurement strategies, support operations, and push continuous improvements in dimensional accuracy and process capability.

You will oversee inspection plans, gauge R&R analyses and SPC deployments, mentoring engineers and driving reduction of dimensional defects across the production facility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or related engineering field.
• Experience in manufacturing engineering, ideally in a regulated industry.
• Proficiency in CAD, CAM, and process simulation tools.
• Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing & Six Sigma methodologies.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings.
• Experience deploying APQP standards and tools.
• Experience mentoring or developing engineers.

Responsibilities

• Senior authority for metrology, dimensional control and measurement systems.
• Define and optimise measuring strategies (CMM, laser tracker, scanning, vision systems).
• Own capability, accuracy and compliance of measurement systems.
• Approve inspection plans, MSA, gauge R&R, uncertainty analysis.
• Lead development and deployment of SPC strategies for measurement processes, including key characteristic monitoring and sampling plans.
• Resolve complex dimensional variation problems and lead metrology technology introduction.
• Lead CI projects to reduce dimensional defects and measurement cycle time.
• Senior approver for dimensional deviations and concessions.

The Senior Metrology Engineer acts as the technical lead for a defined manufacturing domain or process, providing expert support, coaching and escalation for Manufacturing Engineers and Operations teams.
