Job summary

TQR Consultancy Ltd in Plymouth is seeking a Senior Mechanical Fitter to join an established engineering business. You will lead mechanical assembly, work from drawings, and support projects through testing and commissioning.

The role requires travel to UK sites and overseas, a time-served engineering background, and mentoring apprentices while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Mechanical Fitter / Mechanical Engineer in automation environments.
• Time-served engineering background or mechanical qualification.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specs.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical assembly and fitting tasks to a high standard and within timescales.
• Work from engineering drawings, layouts and specifications.
• Apply limits, fits and tolerances when assembling components.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and commissioning teams for efficient delivery.
• Identify issues during assembly and minimise project risk.
• Record modifications to components and drawings.
• Test and challenge equipment to meet customer specs before FAT and commissioning.
• Provide regular progress updates to the Project Manager.
• Support equipment performance and OEE targets.
• Take a lead role on selected projects including commissioning support.
• Mentor apprentices and ensure safe, quality work.
• Travel to customer sites for installation, commissioning, training and sign-off.
• Represent the business professionally on customer sites and maintain relationships.
• Keep PMs informed of progress, issues and planned activities.
• Follow Safe Systems of Work and Health & Safety procedures.
