Job summary

Essar Oil (UK) Limited is recruiting a Senior Mechanical Engineer for our Stanlow site. You will provide specialist mechanical engineering leadership across a diverse project portfolio, ensuring safe, compliant delivery from concept through to start-up within multi-disciplinary teams.

The role requires significant industrial experience, Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it), and a strong focus on safety, regulatory compliance, and performance improvements across UK and Mumbai project

Qualifications

• Significant mechanical engineering experience in a large industrial environment (preferably Upper Tier COMAH).
• Strong safety awareness and understanding of petrochemical equipment and systems.
• Knowledge of API, DEP, BS standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide mechanical engineering expertise across all project phases.
• Lead and review discipline deliverables to ensure compliance with engineering standards and governance.
• Support HSE performance through participation in HAZOPs, risk assessments, PSSRs and other safety‑critical activities.
• Act as the mechanical focal point for project tie-ins, plant modifications and turnaround execution.
• Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Turnaround and Process Safety teams to ensure successful project integration.
• Support vendor and contractor selection through technical evaluations and bid reviews.
• Mentor engineers across UK and Mumbai project teams, promoting technical excellence and continuous improvement.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll provide specialist mechanical engineering leadership across a diverse portfolio of projects, ensuring safe, compliant, and high-quality delivery from concept through to start-up. Working within multi-disciplinary teams, you will act as a key technical authority, supporting project execution while ensuring alignment with site standards, regulatory requirements, and operational needs.

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering (experienced).
• Significant mechanical engineering experience in a large industrial environment (preferably Upper Tier COMAH).
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
• Strong safety awareness and understanding of petrochemical equipment and systems.
• Knowledge of engineering standards (API, DEP, BS etc.).
• Proven ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks in a fast‑moving environment.
• Experience in risk assessment and mitigation.
• Site mechanical signatory holder for plant changes and other approvals - or working towards.
